COLERAINE First XI travelled to Castle at the weekend for a much anticipated top of the table clash.
The game lived up to all its expectations, the sides sharing the points in a six-goal thriller.
The visitors started brightly and were rewarded for their early dominance with the opening goal, Kelly Watt scoring with a fine strike.
However, the hosts fought back almost immediately and duly levelled within minutes.
Coleraine responded positively to this setback with Zoe Purdy and Helen Tweedie especially prominent but they were rocked when Castle edged in front for the first time.
The visitors defended resolutely for the remainder of the half with Rebecca Crowe making crucial saves along with Alice McGill, Sharon Kennedy, Milenka Rygielska, Jenna McMaster and Claire Adams staying disciplined in the circle.
Coleraine started the second half strong with smooth linkage between midfielders Becky Lockhart, Susan Chapman and Honour Nethery.
However, Castle scored again to increase their lead and make it 3-1.
At this point, Coleraine had to make the decision whether to fight back or try and protect their net to prevent further damage.
Coleraine chose to push harder and higher, determined to try and pull back.
