Dunluce favourites in Division One race

Thursday, 1 March 2018

WITH only three more matches to play in Division One of the North West Indoor Bowling League, Dunluce have a 12.5 points advantage over Loughanreagh, their nearest opponents.
Whilst it may be too early to open the champagne they can certainly put it in the fridge for they only need nine points from their remaining games to clinch the title.
It is more interesting at the lower end of the table with three teams battling it out to save the drop.
At present, Finvoy Presbyterian seem to be in more danger than either 2nd. Kilrea or Dunloy Presbyterian but each have difficult games ahead and it's too early to call.
Second Kilrea did not help their cause this week going down seven nil to visitors Dunluce.
Uel McKeeman gave Dunluce the perfect start with a win over David Paul (Kilrea). Nicky McCaw (Kilrea) then went down to Barry Kane (Dunluce).
In the second period, Dunluce had wins from both Rodney Kane and Alistair Kirkpatrick who beat Graham Wilson and Ivan Smyth respectively to give Dunluce the match.
Loughanreagh were also in Kilrea this week when they took on the Marian.
Although Loughanreagh got five and a half points it is not enough to put real pressure on Dunluce.
In the first game James Martin (Marian) beat Nigel Gamble (Loughanreagh) by one shot.
Ian Ross (Loughanreagh) and Brian McAlary (Marian) could not be separated, each scoring eight shots.
Loughanragh then edged into the lead when Alistair Steele beat Aidan Cassley (Marian) by three shots and Alan Irwin gave Loughanreagh the bonus points with a comfortable win against William McCaw (Marian).
If only St. Colman's had started the league programme in the way they are finishing it then they too could have been up near the top vying for league honours. As it is they will probably finish in third or fourth place.
