Freedom honour a great privilege - Whyte thumbnailMervyn Whyte will receive the Freedom of the Borough at a special event in Coleraine on Friday.

COUNCIL will bestow the highest award possible on North West 200 Event Director Mervyn Whyte later this week at a special reception in Coleraine.
Mr Whyte is due to receive the Freedom of the Borough on Friday in recognition of his services to two and four-wheel motorsport in Northern Ireland.
A notice of motion calling for the honour to be conferred was tabled last May by the DUP's James McCorkell, with this receiving cross-party support.
After Coleraine's three medal winning rowers Alan Campbell and the Chambers brothers, Richard and Peter, Mr Whyte is set to become the fourth sportsman from the Causeway Coast and Glens area to be presented with the special certificate. "To be receiving this is a great privilege," he said.
“This is right up there [with my MBE]. The most pleasing aspect is that it is coming from those in the local council - that really means a lot to me.
