Impressive win for Coleraine Firsts at Larne

Thursday, 21 December 2017

COLERAINE First XI are in good form going into the Christmas holidays following a comprehensive 9-1 win over Larne at the weekend.
The Sandel Lodge team were determined to maintain their unbeaten run in the league and went into the game in confident mood having defeated the same opponents 4-0 earlier in the season.
However, preparations were hit when, because of illness and other factors, they travelled with just 13 players.
Coleraine started with determination and composure from the whistle and it wasn't long before they were rewarded with their first goal when Captain Kelly Watt released a ball from the base line allowing Becky Lockhart to knock it in.
This settled the away side and they began to play some impressive hockey down the lines. Pushing higher, Sharon Kennedy received the ball and smashed it into the circle with Kelly Watt getting a touch on it to deflect it into the nets. Coleraine continued to gather momentum and it wasn't long before Honour Nethery drove into the circle, aiming the ball at the right post where Kelly Watt was perfectly position to get a deflection and score her second goal of the game.
The visitors weren't finished yet and when Laura Todd came on the pitch with fresh legs and went flying down the right side of the pitch she released a ball into the circle where Grace Bradley was waiting to sweep it into the net.
Larne weren't without their chances but strong defensive work from Claire Adams, Susan Chapman and Alice McGill kept them at bay.
