COLERAINE'S Brad Lyons believes competition for places will drive the club's bid for honours this season.
The 20-year-old made a welcome return to action on Saturday, coming off the bench as a second half sub' in the 1-1 home draw with Crusaders.
And while the midfielder was wearing a protective mask as a result of facial injuries sustained in October's win over Linfield, there was no disguising his delight at being back.
“It's a great feeling to be back and I feel my fitness is better than ever," he admitted.
“I've been working really hard in recent weeks and I was just glad to get on.
“A draw was probably a fair result."
Brad's return to action after just six weeks is a massive boost to the Bannsiders ahead of the busy festive period and there may be more good news on the way.
“Lyndon's working hard and he's eager to come back," said his close friend.
“When players come back we're all going to have to up our game and there'll be even more fighting for places."
Bannsiders' boss Oran Kearney confirmed that the defender, out since breaking a metatarsal bone in his foot in pre-season, is nearing a return to action.
“Lyndon has been on the anti gravity treadmill for the past couple of weeks and he's almost up to full weight bearing now," he said.
