CASTLEROCK'S Dessie Nutt clinched a record seventh British historic rally title at the weekend by winning the 2017 FUCHS Lubricants R.A.C Asphalt Rally Championship - on his very first attempt.
Nutt - who recorded maximum scores on every round of the series he started this season - now ranks as one of the most successful drivers from here to have ever competed across the Irish Sea.
The result also ends a nine-year wait for an outright trophy win as the Porsche 911 owner's last came back in 2009 when he triumphed in the British Historic Championship with Geraldine McBride.
Nutt was assured of the R.A.C trophy after Roger Moran failed to start the sixth and final round - the two-day Jersey Rally - on Friday. Moran needed to win his class in order to share the crown.
“I'm very pleased at the outcome," Nutt told Chronicle Sport.
“It has been a big effort from a lot of people to make this possible, not least Geraldine who has done a fantastic job on the other side of the car. The amount of time, effort and energy she has put in this year just been unbelievable.
