Eoghan Rua win Kilmacud Sevens thumbnailThe Eoghan Rua squad which defeated hosts Kilmacud Crokes in the final of the Volkswagen Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Football Sevens on Saturday.

WHILE there may have been nothing but disappointment for Derry Minors on Sunday - soundly beaten by a David Clifford inspired Kerry - there was some consolation for the Oak Leaf county in the shape of Eoghan Rua whose senior footballers won the prestigious Kilmacud Crokes Sevens title for the first time on Saturday.
The Coleraine club produced a stunning second half display to defeat hosts Kilmacud Crokes 4-9 to 2-10 at Glenalbyn to write their names into the history books and claim what it generally recognised as the 'third' senior All Ireland football trophy.
The Dublin club led 1-7 to 1-6 at half-time, Colm McGoldrick with the Eoghan Rua goal, but inspired by 'player of the tournament' Sean Leo McGoldrick the Ulster side dominated the second period to run out convincing five point winners. The former Derry play-maker scored 1-1 in the third quarter with brother Colm adding his second goal and Ciaran Lagan also getting in on the goalscoring act.
Eoghan Rua won their group stage with victories over Padraig Pearses 4-10 to 4-4, Thomas Davis, Dublin, 2-13 to 1-11 and Belfast's St John's 4-9 to 3-4. In the quarter-final they accounted for another Dublin side, Oliver Plunketts, 6-6 to 2-11 and saw off fellow Derry club Ballinderry, 5-10 to 0-13, in the semi-final.
