Bannsiders move top with comfortable win thumbnail

COLERAINE sit proudly clear at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership table following Saturday's comprehensive win over Glenavon and the fact that Linfield were otherwise engaged, defeating Spartans of the Lowland League in the Scottish Challenge Cup.
The Bannsiders have now won their opening five league games in the club's best start to a league season in many a year.
A brace of goals from Darren McCauley, arguably in the form of his life at present, one from Josh Carson and a screamer from midfielder Ciaron Harkin was no less than the home side deserved for some vibrant attacking play.
Indeed, with better decision making and a little more composure in the final third, the scoreline could have been a lot more embarrassing for Gary Hamilton's men.
Darren McCauley opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 13 minutes following a trip on Brad Lyons inside the penalty area by Rhys Marshall.
The big winger was quick to take responsibility for the penalty and his confidence was well placed as he chipped the ball straight down the middle of the goal with Glenavon goalkeeper Jonathan Tuffey unable to prevent the goal.
