Chris Johns denied Jamie Glackin soon after at the other end and the 'keeper was at it again moments later, turning away a deflected David Ogilby effort.
Brian Jensen produced a smart save to deny McGonigle but the big Dane was powerless to prevent Coleraine doubling their lead on the stroke of half-time.
