NEARLY nearly three hundred female athletes took in Springwell Running Club's popular Purple Ladies' 5k road race in Ballymoney last Wednesday evening.
Following on from her recent win at the Giant's Trail Race, in-form athlete Sarahjane Guiney (unattached) led the field from the start, quickly establishing a comfortable lead which she maintained to win in a time of 19 minutes and 20 seconds. The remaining podium places on the GES Group-sponsored event were contested by Karen McLaughlin (Springwell Running Club), Veronica Nellins (unattached) and Lisa Simpson (Acorns Athletics Club) respectively.
Karen's recent good form and experience proved the difference and she took second place in 20 minutes 14 seconds, with Veronica third in a time of 20 minutes and 38 seconds. Lisa finished fourth in 20 minutes 54 second before Nicola Sargent (Termoneeny Running Club) rounded out the top five places.
