Irish Open benefits from blue-sky thinking thumbnail

THE much anticipated winds may never have arrived, but Saturday evening at Portstewart Golf Club witnessed what can only be described as 'the perfect storm.'
Clear skies, strong sunshine, sparkling golf, throngs of happy fans and the perfect summer's evening soundtrack from local band The Grooverobbers saw to it that that those lucky enough to be there were blown away by the whole experience.
It was a spectacle organisers could only have dreamed of when finalising plans for an ambitious Duty Free Irish Open, hosted by the Rory Foundation. In the end, all the hard work paid off as the resort played host to what is being described as one of the most successful tournaments in the Irish Open's long history.
Co-operation on a number of fronts from various statutory agencies ensured the week didn't become clouded by negativity and helped enhance the area's hard earned reputation for staging high profile events.
