Coleraine restore pride in Showgrounds stalemate thumbnail

COLERAINE made their inevitable bow out of the Europa League on Thursday evening but not before restoring some pride by virtue of a scoreless draw against Norwegian opponents FK Haugesund.
In fact, it could be argued - and has by many - that the Bannsiders deserved to win this first qualifying round second leg game played in front of a sizeable crowd at the Showgrounds. Behind 7-0 from the first leg in Scandanavia when the hosts were admittedly too good, Oran Kearney's side was determined to put up a better show in front of their own supporters and that they did, restoring plenty of pride in the process.
It was the visitors who started the brighter with Sverre Bjorkkjaer and midfielder Ikenna Ikedi both having early efforts, but gradually the hosts began finding their feet.
Darren McAuley was proving the pick of Coleraine's attacking players in the opening stages and he forced a fine save out of visiting goalkeeper Sandvik midway through the opening half.
