McCloskey bags podium on Somerset Stages Rally return
CONNOR McCloskey has said he could not have hoped for a better outcome on Saturday's Somerset Stages Rally after bringing his '14-spec Ford Fiesta World Rally Car home among the podium places.
McCloskey finished the fourteen stage event - which included two runs over the all-Tarmac Porlock Road - third overall, 37 seconds adrift of eventual winners Stephen Petch and Michael Wilkinson.
Sandwiched between them - and making it an all Ford Fiesta top three at the Minehead-based event - was Callum Black. Despite still acclimatising to DMACK tyres, he was just 11 seconds behind Petch.
The only setback of note for McCloskey came on the two short runs over Porlock where he dropped from third place to fifth because of handbrake issues that made negotiating tight corners much more of a chore that it needed to be.
"It cost us a chunk of time but we managed to claw it back," said McCloskey, who put in a massive charge towards the finish to claw his way back up the leaderboard.
