Coleraine 'four' too good for rivals thumbnailColeraine manager Oran Kearney talks to his players following Saturday’s four-goal thumping of Ballymena United.

THE disappointment, emptiness and hurt felt by December's League Cup semi-final defeat was washed away at the weekend and, in some style too, as Coleraine dismantled their great rivals in the Irish Cup. Previous meetings between the teams, especially towards the end of last year, had been tight, cagey affairs and the large crowd packed into the Showgrounds could have been forgiven for expecting more of the same.
Instead, what they got was a totally one-sided encounter which the visitors bossed throughout, creating a host of chances, some of which they took, many others which went abegging.
Such was their dominance that this game was over as a contest long before the end, a fact which is bound to have hurt Ballymena manager David Jeffrey.
Indeed, the manner of the defeat may act as something of a reality check for both him and the team's supporters who have been riding the crest of a wave in recent times.
They will know that despite the League Cup success over Carrick much work needs to be done.
Coleraine, in contrast, look to be heading in the right direction with a vibrant, young team, full of burgeoning talent growing in confidence and experience all the time.
One of those young players is Mark Edgar, someone who hasn't featured much for the first team despite a glowing reputation.
He has struggled to adapt to life in the Irish League following a lengthy spell in England but enjoyed one of his best games in a Coleraine shirt at the weekend as a replacement for normal left-back Adam Mullan.
