THE first female general manager in Portstewart Golf Club's 123 year history says she is 'honoured and privileged' at taking up the role.
Mrs Judith Braniff was speaking after succeeding long-serving Michael Moss who steps down after 39 years in the job.
She described it as a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity and said she hoped she would remain in the office as long as long as her predecessor.
“Everyone has been so warm and welcoming and everything just feels right.
“I'm sure I will absolutely love it," she said. "I'm trying to fill big shoes. Michael's door is always open and mine is too.
“There will be changes - it's inevitable - but I aim to make the changes as smooth as possible and explain where we want to go.
“Part of my job is to empower everyone to do their jobs but I think together we're going to have a happy ship and we'll get the job done and done well.
“I never thought about being the first lady manager, I always judge it as the best person for the job regardless of gender," added the former general manager of Kirkistown Castle Golf Club who officially started on February 1.
The county Down native takes over from outgoing manager Michael Moss who will stay on at the club as tournament director for this summer's Irish Open.
