'The best is yet to come' thumbnailJamie McGonigle, seen here after scoring the only goal of the game in Saturdayís Tennentís Irish Cup win over Tobermore Utd, and defender Gareth McConaghie have both signed new two year contracts at the Showgrounds.

COLERAINE'S leading goalscorer and January player of the month Jamie McGonigle believes the club will have won 'at least one trophy' before his new deal expires at the end of the 2018/2019 season. The 20-year-old frontman signed a two year contract extension this week, along with central defender Gareth McConaghie, as Bannsiders' boss Oran Kearney looks to tie down some of the club's prize assets.
McGonigle admitted he was 'very happy' to agree his new contract which, he added, allowed him to concentrate on playing.
“It means my future is now sorted. It's a great club with great people and everyone is well looked after," he said.
“If you look at the amount of young players and the results we're picking up I believe it's only a matter of time before there's a trophy back at the Showgrounds.
“I expect that we'll have won at least one trophy before my deal runs out. The best is yet to come," he added.
McGonigle also paid tribute to his manager who, he said, was one of the main reasons he had put pen to paper on a new deal.
“What he has done in bringing all the young players through and having faith in us is brilliant," continued the Dungiven man.
