CIVIL SERVICE............................2 COLERAINE FIRST ELEVEN............4

A BRACE from Zoe Purdy helped Coleraine First XI get 2017 off to a winning start with a 4-2 win over Civil Serice at Stormont on Saturday. The visitors started slowly but gradually recovered to get the better of dogged opponents who opened the scoring in the early stages of the match.
Coleraine responded with an excellent phase of play which began in defence and worked its way through midfield before Grace Bradley supplied the decisive pass for Laura Todd to escape her marker and equalise.
The Bannsiders were in the ascendancy now and made their superiority count when they doubled their lead through a deflected Niamh Tweedie strike.
Civil Service responded but were denied a goal by an ill-timed blow of the whistle. Just before the fist half came to an end Coleraine scored again via Zoe Purdy who got on the end of a good pass to beat the Civil Service keeper.
The second half witnessed a tight battle between the sides with both keepers making excellent saves.
However, after some minutes of play, Civil Service were rewarded with another well placed goal to reduce the deficit.
Coleraine weren't to be denied and Zoe Purdy converted a penalty corner late on to seal an excellent 4-2 win.
