BALLYMENA Utd made it two wins in less than two weeks against their fiercest rivals in front of a packed home support on Boxing Day to make it a very Merry Christmas for David Jeffrey and his little helpers.
First half goals from Cathair Friel and Tony Kane gave the home side a 2-0 half-time lead and they defended stoutly after the interval to hang on for all three points.
The game was barely ten minutes old before the in-form Friel stooped to head home his 17th goal of the season from a Kane cross from the right.
The visitors almost levelled nine minutes later when Adam Mullan, in for the departed Rodney Brown, forced a smart save from Ross Glendinning following a Davy Kee corner.
