COLERAINE First XV march on to the semi-finals of the Millar, McCaul, Wylie Junior Cup after an assertive performance against Ballyclare at the weekend.
The 'Cookstown' sponsored Coleraine team produced a dominant game to take the honours with a scoreline of 22-0. It was a stiff test for the home team against a well drilled and effective Ballyclare side and they produced the goods on the day.
Speaking after the match, Coleraine Head Coach Richard Boyd said: "I am really proud of the team today and we are delighted to progress into the next round of the cup. Ballyclare have been going well in recent weeks and we knew this was going to be a step up in terms of intensity and physicality. This was always going to be a tight game and we had to adapt our game plan with the weather conditions and opposition in mind.
“I thought our defence was outstanding and as a team we had to dig deep for long periods but we showed great heart and determination not to concede. We were patient and our discipline ensured that Ballyclare couldn't build a score or use their impressive maul to attack our line as often.
“The forwards were excellent today and laid the platform for the win. We were dominant at the set piece and we were able to contain the strong runners that Ballyclare possessed.
