Platt to hold talks with chairman over Shields thumbnailColeraine boss David Platt is to hold talks with Coleraine chairman Hugh Wade on Thursday about the future of midfielder Tony Shields.

COLERAINE manager David Platt is to hold talks with Coleraine chairman Hugh Wade on Thursday about the future of midfielder Tony Shields.
The former Finn Harps man wasn't included in the 16-man squad for Saturday's win over Institute, despite being an integral member of the team in recent weeks.
Manager Platt refused to be drawn on the reasons for the player's exclusion, stating simply that due to what he called 'unforseen circumstances' the player hadn't been named in the squad.
The recalled Kyle McVey deputised for Shields as Coleraine came from behind to defeat John Gregg's side 2-1 thanks to goals from Tommy McCallion and Stephen Carson.
“Tony has been a big player for us recently but his absence didn't affect the players or their performance on Saturday," said Platt.
“He wasn't there because of unforeseen circumstances, but until I have spoken with Tony and with the chairman who is away at the moment I can't say anymore."
Meanwhile, it appears as if the club is moving closer to agreeing a deal with former Sheffield Wednesday apprentice Dave McClements, as first reported in this paper last week.
The 19-year-old, who hails from Coleraine, trained at the Showgrounds last Thursday evening and will do so again this evening (Tuesday).
It's believed he is keen to revive his career with his hometown club after being released by the Hillsborough club earlier this year and he has already made a good impression on the Showgrounds' boss.
“He looks half decent," admitted Platt. "He ticks a lot of boxes - he's young, he's local, he's enthusiastic and he's got pace - and he seems keen on getting back to playing again.
“We had a chat on Thursday evening and we'll be having another chat again at training this week.
“He's a nice young fella and it would be great to get another local boy on board.
“He was at the game on Saturday and, while it wasn't the greatest spectacle because of the weather, I'm sure he would have been impressed with the way the team stuck at their task.
“It's a great opportunity for him, as well as us, so I'd be hopeful something could happen," added Platt.
This Saturday, the Bannsiders put their eight game unbeaten run on the line against Glenavon at Mourneview Park, never a happy hunting ground for Coleraine.
“We have done well to get three away wins in a row recently but Saturday promises to be a difficult game," continued David.
“Probably out of all the teams we have played at home they caused us the most problems.
“They have a number if dangerous players including Tony Grant and Trevor Molloy who we will have to watch but we will go there in a positive frame of mind."
Marty Hunter, who scored a late winner for the Reserves against Institute at the weekend, could come into contention for a place in the squad while striker Richard Gibson may be unavailable. Aside from that, and barring any injuries, the manager could have a full squad to choose from.
“As ever, we'll see what happens in training this week before deciding on the team. We have set a target for ourselves and hopefully we can keep the momentum going."
