Boys Owens stuff at the Showgrounds thumbnailCelebration time in the Railway End as Steven Lowry’s late goal secures Irish Cup progress against Larne Tech Old Boys.

SELF-CONFESSED Coleraine supporter Paul Owens enjoyed a dream debut on Saturday and immediately set his sights on helping the Bannsiders enjoy a second good cup run this season. Owens, ineligible to play in next week's IRN-BRU League Cup final against Crusaders, scored his side's first goal and set up the second as they came from 2-0 down with four minutes left to play to defeat Larne Tech Old Boys 3-2 in a dramatic Irish Cup tie at the Showgrounds.
It was quite an introduction for the 29-year-old who clearly followed his manager Oran Kearney's instructions to the letter.
“Oran told me to go on and make an impact so hopefully I did that," laughed the former Limavady Utd and Carrick Rangers man.
“Because we were 2-0 down I had no time to get nervous which probably helped and to score one and set one up - I would have taken that in the morning.
“It's a great feeling to get through but everybody knows we didn't perform. We should be beating teams like Larne Tech but you only have to look at Glentoran to see what can happen.
“We thought that if we got a goal back then we might get a second and thankfully that's what happened.
“The team was a bit flat but it's a good reminder that you need to treat every game the same."
Coleraine's reward for winning is a home draw against Championship One leaders Ballinamallard Utd with the game due to take place at the start of February.
“They're a very good side and I'm sure Oran will have his homework done on them," added the Coleraine-based civil servant.
“I would love a good run in the Irish Cup, especially as I can't play in the League Cup final next week!"
