Ferris steps down as assistant manager

Former Derry City midfielder Darren McCauley training with Coleraine last week. Bannsiders’ boss David Platt has made the player an offer and is awaiting a response.
JODY Tolan is set to help out manager David Platt and coach Aidy McLaughlin in the interim after it was revealed that Coleraine assistant manager Geoff Ferris is stepping down from the role.
The former Coleraine and Glenavon striker has cited family reasons for relinquishing his post just weeks ahead of the start of the new season.
“Work and football over the last few years have taken up a large proportion of my time and I feel like I've missed out on quite a lot in my family life," Ferris said.
“It's not a decision I've taken lightly. I've been discussing it with Davy for a few months now but I think the time is right."
The Coleraine boss paid tribute to his former colleague - and didn't rule out Geoff lending a hand again in the future.
“It'll be hard to find someone to replace Geoff, someone I've worked closely with for two years now," said Platt.
“It's been a hectic two years for the both of us and I understand why he wants to take a back seat for a while.
“Hopefully he'll be there if I need him and maybe he can watch the odd game for me in the future.
“In the interim, Jody will help myself and Aidy in a small role. He feels passionately about the club and wants to give something back."
Platt also revealed that talks are continuing in regard to strengthening the squad before the season starts in a month's time.
