More than 300 operations cancelled at Causeway thumbnail

MORE than 300 patients were left in limbo after their operations were cancelled at Coleraine's Causeway hospital during 2016-2017 financial year, according to new figures.
The main reasons for their surgery being put on hold at the last minute included pressures on the hospital's emergency department and a beds shortage.
However, statistics obtained by the Ulster Unionist Party, following a Freedom of Information request, show that cancellations dropped dramatically last year, with 243 patients being told their operations had been postponed. The figure for the corresponding period the previous year was 328.
