A PORTSTEWART man, who was stranded in Malaga for two days after his flight to Belfast was cancelled, has been left over €150 Euros out of pocket.
Jim Montgomery flew out to Spain on December 20 to spend his Christmas holidays in the sun and although his vacation was an enjoyable experience, he wasn't able to say the same for his journey home.
Originally from Ballymena, Jim had been due to fly to Belfast International Airport on December 27 aboard an easyJet flight. However as he watched the monitors in the Spanish airport change - he soon found out this was not the case.
“I sat near the gate and noticed it had updated to say there was a 15 minute delay and thought nothing of it. Then it changed to 30 minutes and again I didn't care too much as you expect things like this to happen," explained the 72-year-old. "Someone then asked me if I was for Belfast and told me that the flight had been cancelled."
Jim continued: "I couldn't get near the easyJet rep at the gate who was completely surrounded by people and so I couldn't get any information from him as I couldn't get near him."
Having been told by others that easyJet were to find a hotel for him to stay in, Jim set about looking for the easyJet desk to find out anything he could. However he found himself struggling to get back out of airport security.
When he eventually made his way to the desk he was astounded to find over 100 people queuing to get the same information.
After a four-hour-wait, Jim finally got speaking to someone from the company and was told that he would not be able to fly home for a further two days and that he would not be able to avail of a direct flight and would instead have to stop off at Bristol.
