A BIG-HEARTED Portrush man is planning to run the London Marathon to honour his tragic partner who took her own life just months before he was planning to propose to her.
But Andy Farrer, who broke his spine five years ago in a fall, won't be just another face in the crowds in the capital come April.
The 53-year-old supermarket worker will be hard to miss as he pounds the 26.2-mile circuit carrying an ironing board and iron in memory of Wilma Patton Brolly during the unusual challenge for charity.
Wilma was 47 when she died in November 2016. Andy had been planning to pop the question midway through last year's marathon, five months after her passing.
He recalled: "I was going to change out of my running gear into a tuxedo to pop the question, but I never got the chance. Tragically, Wilma died before I could spring my surprise."
