THE man who took charge of the Irish Open golf tournament in Portstewart has been awarded an MBE.
Michael Moss was named on the Queen's New Year's Honours list announced at the weekend.
He was among seven local people to be honoured, including former Coleraine footballer and popular pundit Liam Beckett.
Mr Moss retired from his post as general manager of the club earlier this year. His last duty was to oversee the running of the an international event attended by around 80,000 spectators and watched by millions around the world on TV.
The 66-year-old took up the post of secretary and manager of Portstewart Golf Club in 1978 and has steered the club through many changes.
Over the course of the last 40 years, he helped transform the club from small local concern into a global business with an annual turnover of around 2m.
