PLANS for a £40m luxury hotel overlooking Royal Portrush links took a major step forward this week with submission of a planning application.
Details of the five-star Dunluce Resort and Spa proposal were unveiled in July by US-based husband and wife team behind the development.
The 10 acre green field site lies on high ground above the A2 coast road close to Whiterocks beach and the golf course.
Developers say the hotel will create 250 jobs and have a transformational effect on the tourism and hospitality industry.
Already the subject of pre-planning public consultation, plans were officially lodged with Causeway Coast and Glens Council last Thursday.
Architect Richard Hunter told the Chronicle an international team had worked round the clock to put the application together.
And he believes the project remains on target to open its doors in time for the 2019 Open Championship "We are delighted to have lodged the application," he said.
“The project for a high end luxury hotel is transformational, not just for the Portrush area, but for the entire North Coast.
