ON SATURDAY Dalriada recorded a narrow two point victory over a strong Ballyclare side - a team seeded in the top eight ahead of this season's Schools' Cup. The result ensures the local side enter December with only one defeat to their name with that coming against Wallace.
Dalriada secured kick-off and immediately went on the attack, forcing Ballyclare on to the defensive.
After some continued pressure from the Dalriada pack and strong running from their centre Luke Pollock allowed left winger Ross Fallows scored the first points as he beat two defenders and made it over the try line. James McCormick added the conversion to make it 7-0.
McCormick then added a further three points to the scoreline when Ballyclare conceded a penalty for not releasing the ball in a ruck to make it 10-0 to the home side.
It was now the turn for Ballyclare to go on the attack and they did so through their forwards within the Dalriada five metre line. A strong show of defence from the Dalriada pack wasn't enough to keep the away side off the scoreboard as they crossed the try line to chalk up their first points of the game. The conversion went just wide of the post to leave the half-time score Dalriada 10 Ballyclare 5.
