COLERAINE maintained their unbeaten run with a hard-earned 1-0 league win over north west rivals Limavady at the weekend.
The hosts went into the game on the back of a good performance the previous week but knew to expect a tough challenge from their local rivals.
Coleraine started well and Helen Tweedie forced a smart save from the Limavady keeper from an early short corner.
They continued to press and good work from the likes of Honour Nethery and Sue Nutt saw Coleraine win a number of further penalty corners. The game developed into something of a physical battle but strong defensive work by midfielders Kelly Watt and Becky Lockhart prevented the balls being smashed up the pitch from going very far and while there was some impressive passing to forwards Laura Todd and Lois Wilson.
The sides remained deadlocked at the break but the game followed a similar pattern on the restart, Helen Tweedie again going close from a penalty corner. Coleraine continued to press and were rewarded with the only goal of the game.
Lois Wilson broke away, entered the circle and looked to take a shot on goal but was tripped before she could do so.
The second flick of the match was awarded and this time Zoe Purdy stepped up and confidently slotted the ball into the corner of the net to make the score 1-0.
With only 10 minutes left, Limavady stepped up their game and were soon in the Coleraine circle but were stopped by keeper Rebecca Crowe.
