THE Causeway Coast, along with Belfast, have been named the Number One Region in the world to visit in 2018 by Lonely Planet.
The leading travel media company unveiled the accolade on Tuesday, October 24, in the prestigious Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2018 - its collection of the world's hottest trends, destinations and experiences for the coming year.
Belfast and the Causeway Coast came ahead of places like Alaska, the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France and the Aeolian islands in Italy.
Tourism Ireland plans to take every opportunity to maximise this accolade for Northern Ireland over the coming weeks and months. Its promotional campaign will roll out in 14 different markets, including Britain, USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Nordic region, Australia, New Zealand, India and the GCC.
Coleraine DUP councillor Trevor Clarke has welcomed the recognition from Lonely Planet. He said: "Tourism in Northern Ireland has being enjoying something of a renaissance since the 2012 'Our time, our place' campaign.
