AN alarming number of Coleraine people are becoming hooked on prescription and over the counter drugs, a local charity has revealed this week.
The "huge" scale of the problem has been exposed by Oasis Causeway in Abbey Street, which supports addicts trying to wean themselves off legal, but potentially deadly, substances.
Manager Susan Lyons, who is retiring after six years, told The Chronicle how the charity, which relies on donations and grants as well as DfC support, is being innundated with pleas for help.
She said: "Everyone is aware of the dangers of heroin, cocaine and cannabis. But what concerns us most is the growing problem of addictions to over the counter and prescription drugs. It's driving people literally to the brink.
