COUNCILLORS have delayed plans to revamp Ramore Head Recreation grounds until they hear directly from groups seeking new facilities.
The site currently contains two bowling greens and a dilapidated pavilion, as well as a redundant crazy golf course, 12 little used tennis courts and a sparsely equipped playpark.
The redevelopment plans were to take account of the town's wider recreation needs but after consulting interest groups it has become clear that only bowlers were enthusiastic about remaining.
Consultations revealed that skateboarders, footballers, tennis players would prefer to avoid the Ramore Head area.
Local residents are also lukewarm about rebuilding the playpark in such an exposed location.
As a result leisure development plans have been broadened to include sites at the Bowl, West Bay, Metropole Park, Parker Avenue and Glenmanus.
Early estimates put the cost of new facilities at around 4m, members of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council heard last week.
At the September meeting of the Leisure and Development Committee members were told proposals had been narrowed down to three projects.
