POLICE have issued a warning on potential 'catastrophic' consequences of shining lasers at helicopters after an incident during a north coast search and rescue operation.
The police chopper was targeted last Monday while searching cliffs near Portrush aided by the Coastguard and the RNLI lifeboat.
While the woman was safely recovered, the man thought to be in his 30s, was arrested for "endangering an aircraft."
PSNI Chief Inspector Ian Magee said anyone caught shining lasers at aircraft would face the full force of the law.
He added: "I can't emphasise enough how dangerous this type of activity is. The consequences of bringing down an aircraft in a built up area doesn't bear thinking about.
