A TEENAGE girl was rescued by the Coastguard after getting trapped at the base of a 100 foot cliff at Castlerock last night (Monday, July 24).
She was walking along the coast with another girl and two boys on Monday evening when a rapid tide came in.
The three others managed to swim to safety and raise the alarm but she became trapped by the tide and had to be lifted off the cliff by rope.
Coleraine and Ballycastle rescue teams, Portrush lifeboats and RNLI lifeguards from the beach at Castlerock were called.
A lifeguard and a crew member from Portrush's inshore lifeboat managed to land on rocks to assist the stranded girl.
Because of the rapidly rising spring tide a decision was taken to lift the girl up the cliff to safety.
It's understood she had sustained abrasions from the rocks and was suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion.
