CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens planners have handled more applications than anywhere else in Northern Ireland over the last three months.
The upsurge in development is an indication of renewed confidence within the private sector, according to the senior council officer who exclusively revealed the figures to the Chronicle this weekend.
Leading the way are investors in the hospitality trade, prompted by the growth in golf tourism.
But commercial and domestic development are now at levels not seen since the property market crashed in 2008.
“Our planning office has been the busiest planning office in Northern Ireland for three consecutive months - even busier than Belfast," said Director of Development, Richard Baker.
News of the rapid increase in planning applications came as thousands flocked to Portstewart for the Irish Open.
Although final attendance figures have yet to be released, over 90,000 visitors were expected including 10,000 from outside Northern Ireland.
Tourism NI anticipates that the tournament's media exposure was worth around £2million.
