15m hotel wins planning approval

Thursday, 6 July 2017

CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens Borough Council's planning committee has given the green light to a 15m four-star hotel development outside Portstewart.
Members voted unanimously in favour of the proposal which is expected to create 100 full-time jobs when it opens in 2019 ahead of The Open Championship.
It will operate from a site next to the NW200 paddock and include spa and conference facilities, a restaurant, self-catering cottages and a permanent motorbike exhibition.
The developers have enlisted support from the race organisers, Causeway Chamber of Commerce, Royal Portrush Golf Club and the R&A.
But the scheme has also encountered fierce opposition form residents of the nearby Ballygelagh Village.
Their representative told the committee on Wednesday they would 'consider their legal position' if approval was granted.
