A COUNCILLOR has called for an end to "wanton vandalism" in a Coleraine park following a late-night arson attack.
Firefighters were alerted at 9.13pm on Monday, June 19, after garden furniture was set alight at Anderson Park.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that the incident was sparked by "deliberate ignition."
UUP Councillor William McCandless told The Chronicle how he had arrived as firemen were putting out the blaze.
“The fire was at a trellis with wisteria growing from it. It was well alight and, on checking it later, I found the trailing plant had been totally destroyed and the timbers were charred."
