HERITAGE officials have moved to protect an historic Portrush hotel earmarked for demolition under plans for an 8m redevelopment.
Hotelier Lord Rana, whose company, Andras House owns and runs five Belfast hotels, lodged an application on May 15 to demolish the Londonderry Hotel and replace it with a brand new 103-bedroom development.
He hopes it is up and running in time for the Open Golf Championship in 2019.
However, at a Council Planning Committee meeting on May 24, members agreed to support Historic Environment Division moves to protect the current building with listed status.
And the council has since issued a Building Preservation Notice as a further measure against demolition of the old hotel.
