A Notice of Motion calling for NW200 Limavady man Mervyn Whyte to be awarded the Freedom of the Borough will be brought before Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council tonight (Tuesday).
The Notice of Motion to bestow the prestigious honour in recognition of Mr Whyte's services to sport in Northern Ireland, will be submitted by Limavady DUP Councillor and Deputy Mayor James McCorkell and has been seconded by party colleague, Councillor Trevor Clarke.
Councillor McCorkell's Notice of Motion reads: 'That this Council bestows the Freedom of the Borough upon Mr Mervyn Whyte MBE, Race Director of the International NW200 in recognition of his services to the NW200 race and motorsport in Northern Ireland'.
The motion will go before full council who must then decide to hold a special meeting on the issue and the process can take several months.
