‘Chaos’ at the DVA thumbnail

COLERAINE'S DVA is in chaos as staff battle hopeless backlogs of applications and increasingly angry customers, the Chronicle has learned.
According to an insider, new IT software and inadequate resources have resulted in "appalling service" that has left staff morale and agency performance targets in tatters.
The County Hall office processes licence applications and renewals. Since November last year, when the new computer system was installed, turnaround has jumped from six days to six weeks.
Employees are now under siege from drivers desperate for licences which are often essential for their jobs.
“Staff are being abused to the extent that security staff are having to escort some customers from the office - it's total chaos," said the inside source.
“Morale is at an all time low. Sick leave is through the roof."
