COLERAINE Historical Society has slammed the proposed design for the new coat of arms representing Causeway Coast and Glens Borough.
In a letter to the council's chief executive, the group has questioned the "lack of consultation" with amateur historians.
Last month the Chronicle revealed the new design, drawn up by officials from the College of Arms in London.
Established in 1484, it is the UK's official heraldic authority. Senior officials, or 'Kings of Arms', have full discretion over the design although wishes of the applicant are taken into account as much as possible.
It was a sub-committee of the council that provided design input but without consulting the local historical society.
