‘It was just like the Blitz’

THE manager of a Portrush residential home threatened by a fire which swept through the resort on Easter Sunday has paid tribute to staff and residents who envoked the 'Blitz spirit' as they dealt with the late night drama.
A total of 33 residents were moved from their rooms to the ground floor after a blaze was discovered in a derelict property two doors down from the residential home at Bath Terrace around 8.45pm on Sunday.
Almost a similar number of staff returned to help management as a large number of fire crews fought to prevent the blaze from spreading to adjoining buildings.
Together, they enjoyed a sing-song and even took part in a conga as they tried to lift spirits and take minds off the drama unfolding outside.
