THE first carrier neutral Enterprise Zone and Data Centre in Northern Ireland is coming to Coleraine, it's been officially announced this week.
In what is a long-awaited and hugely significant development for the future of the local economy, the papers for Atlantic Link have finally been signed and delivered.
And Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council also revealed this week that construction of the site close to the University of Ulster in Coleraine will begin soon.
Enterprise Zones ultimately offer hi-tech businesses tax incentives and simplified planning procedures. The pioneering £20m high-tech project, to be based at the University, is expected to create around 10 jobs but will have significant long term benefits for the local economy.
A spokesperson for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said: "For our borough, this presents a significant economic development opportunity. It will be built where the Project Kelvin transatlantic fibre, which connects the US and UK, comes ashore.
