COLERAINE First XV secured top spot in the league and promotion to Division One of the Kukri Ulster Rugby Championship next season with a hard won losing bonus point away to Grosvenor on Saturday.
It was the Cookstown sponsored Coleraine side's first defeat of the league campaign but the 23-16 scoreline was enough to gain a bonus point and that one point creates an unassailable lead over second place CIYMS.
Promotion back into Division One is now assured after a three-year absence.
Celebrations were muted, however, as the side came to terms that while they had won the league it came at the price of the first loss of the league campaign.
There was a general recognition that Grosvenor had produced the better performance on the day but now the team looks forward to the remaining two fixtures of the season in which they will be intent on a return to winning ways.
