THE Coleraine postman, who helped save the life of a 16-month-old boy in Coleraine on Thursday, has enjoyed an emotional reunion with the toddler's family.
Darren Dickson visited the Harpur's Hill home of Megan McCandless and partner Steven Campbell on Saturday, less than 48 hours after responding to pleas for help after their son Caleb had suffered a febrile convulsion.
Mr Dickson was conducting his round in the area just after lunchtime on Thursday when he heard screams for help and saw a woman running into the street carrying a child in her arms.
“I was just delivering mail in Quickthorn Avenue when I heard this screaming - 'somebody help me, it's my baby!'" recalled Darren.
“I just threw the bag in the garden and shouted - 'give me the child.'
“I've done first aid before and it seemed like the baby was choking or having a fit. I took the baby into the living room, put the baby on my knee, chest down, to try and dislodge whatever might have been preventing him from breathing. I put my wee finger down his throat as he wasn't breathing.
