A YOUNG Bushmills woman, who suffered from serious violence at the hands of a former partner, is warning other victims to walk away and speak out before it becomes too late.
Victoria Logan, who has had to move to Portrush due to a number of violent attacks on her by her former partner Gary McKendry, believes her heart overruled her head when it came to continuing their relationship.
McKendry, of Heronshaw, Bushmills, launched a brutal attack on Victoria by headbutting her on the nose, before kicking her four times in the stomach as she lay on the ground in the outside smoking area of Portballintrae Boat Club, on New Year's Eve 2015.
The 24-year-old and her then partner McKendry were at a family gathering in Coleraine before going to the Boat Club when an argument ensued over a cash card.
At Coleraine Magistrates Court in January McKendry, 22, was given four months in jail on a single charge of common assault on Victoria, but was released on bail to appeal the sentence.
McKendry since appealed the sentence to the County Court, which sat in Coleraine last week, where the jail term was overturned and replaced with four months, suspended for three years. He was also ordered to pay 1,000 compensation to Victoria.
Gary McKendry has previous convictions for attacking Victoria and also another ex-partner.
Speaking exclusively to The Chronicle, Victoria explained: "This is the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. However I feel like people need to be made aware that domestic violence cases of any sort are very complex.
