Friends line up to pay tribute to 'Caring Caretaker' thumbnailTributes have been paid to ‘Caring Caretaker,’ Davy Boyle, who has raised over half a million pound for charities over the past two decades.

CHRISTMAS has come and gone and, with it, the fuss surrounding Davy Boyle and his remarkable achievement in raising over £500,000 for charities over the past number of years. But all that means for the man himself is the beginning of a New Year and the opportunity to start again, to raise money for other good causes.
He is no doubt already planning for 2017, with the help of some very trusted friends, among them the minister of New Row Presbyterian Church, Rev Robert McMullan.
He has been at Davy's side for most of the journey and has supported his friend when required. "It's a remarkable achievement," said Rev McMullan of Davy's fundraising exploits.
“What's also remarkable is the numbers of people that Davy has helped over the years. I know there's a lot of people around him and supporting him but he does the donkey work. He has given the town a good impression to the outside world as someone who cares. The respect he has gained in the community over the last number of years is impressive," he added.
Rev McMullan has also noticed a change in his friend's personality as a result of his charity work. "From somebody who maybe wasn't confident in lots of ways to a man now who is confident about the type of person he is and the kind of contribution he makes," he suggested.
“I think it's a good pointer to us all that we can do something if we put our mind to it. He has shown incredible dedication - for example, there were days when we had to pull him off the street, when the glasses were frozen to his face. Being in the centre of town is a good idea because people, amid all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, are drawn to thinking what can I give to help others."
