Waterworld to be sold thumbnail

THE future of iconic Portrush entertainment complex Waterworld has been finally decided, despite a last ditch attempt to delay any decision.
Whilst Waterworld will now be placed on the open market for sale, it will remain open for the next summer season, until August 31 2017, it was confirmed.
It was agreed by councillors to accept the vote previously taken on the future of the 30 year old water park, at a meeting of full council on Tuesday, December 20.
A previous vote at a meeting of the Leisure and Development committee, on Tuesday December 13, gave the green light for the water complex to be 'surplus to council requirements'.
Falling visitor numbers and the need for repairs to the Harbour based complex, led Council officials to consider the future of the centre, which also includes a ten pin bowling facility. At its peak, the wet play centre attracted around 100,000 visitors per season.
The complex, which once included a health suite and jacuzzi pools, was reduced to a seasonal facility in 2009, meaning it is currently only open over Easter week and from mid June to August.
