A KIND-HEARTED Garvagh grandfather has raised 1,200 for a cause close to his heart by staging a Christmas plant sale. All the proceeds from Andy McClarty's festive fundraiser at First Garvagh Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 3, will boost the coffers of the Boom Foundation.
The charity was set up by Coleraine woman Leonard Rankin in memory of her fiance Philip Wilson and supports people affected by sarcoma in Northern Ireland.
Philip sadly lost his battle to sarcoma in March 2013, just weeks before he and Leona were due to marry.
Over the years Andy has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities by staging summer and festive plant sales.
He said: "It was a great day; lots of people turned up and I raised 1,100 on the day itself. That figure was swelled to 1,200 after I went to Aghadowey Presbyterian Church to give a demonstration on how to make wreaths."
Green-fingered Andy added: "I am so grateful to everyone who supported what was my third Christmas plant sale.
