‘Show’ us the money! thumbnailPaul Givan, Minister for Department of Communities (centre) pictured with, from left: Bill Gamble and Tim Robinson of Coleraine architects firm GM Design Associates, Coleraine FC chairman Colin McKendry and Nevin Oliver.

COLERAINE Football Club directors believe they have succeeded in their goal of convincing the Minister for Communities of the need for investment in the Coleraine Showgrounds, home of the high-flying Danske Bank Premiership club. A number of club officials and DUP party colleagues welcomed Paul Givan to the Ballycastle Road ground on Wednesday and showed him plans which they believe could transform the ground - as well as regenerating that part of town.
The Minister is responsible for £36m which has been set aside to help regenerate sports grounds across the Province and which has, to date, attracted over 1,300 expressions of interest.
He admitted that much still needed to be done to decide how the money would be spent but he seemed genuinely impressed with the work which the club has undertaken behind the scenes in conjunction with local architect firm GM Design.
The Minister welcomed the phased approach being adopted by the football club and prospective partners, with the first phase being costed at £2.8m - the amount the club is requesting from the current Subregional Football Stadia funding pot.
